WE ARE... STUDENTS TRYING TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE
WHAT IS RHETORIC AND CIVIC LIFE?

"Rhetoric and Civic Life (RCL) is a year-long honors course offering comprehensive training in oral, written, visual, and digital communication for the twenty-first century. It unites these various modes under the flexible art of rhetoric and uses rhetoric both to strengthen communication skills and to sharpen awareness of the challenges and advantages presented by oral, written, visual, and digital modes."

Penn State Alma Mater

For the Glory of Old State
For her founders strong and great.
For the future that we wait,
Raise the song, raise the song.

Sing our love and loyalty,
Sing our hopes that bright and free
Rest, O Mother, dear with thee
All with thee, all with thee.

When we stood at childhood’s gate,
Shapeless in the hands of fate,
Thou didst mold us dear old State
Dear Old State, dear old State.

May no act of ours bring shame
To one heart that loves thy name,
May our lives but swell thy fame,
Dear old State, dear old State.

PROMOTING ADVOCACY

As an honors course on rhetoric and civic life, we believe that it is our duty to spread awareness on various civic issues both in and outside of the classroom. We have taken the writing, analytical, and deliberative skills that we have learned in class to promote the discussion of these issues. We are more than just college students, we are advocating for a better tomorrow. Here are some of the ways in which we do that:

> Blogging

> Deliberation

> Writing

> Facebook Forum

> Public Speaking

It is important that college students not feel powerless in the midst of today's issues. We have a voice too.
